FilmMagicThroughout his career, musician J-Hope, a member of the extremely popular group BTS, has explored an array of genres during his time with the band. From pure pop to dance to R&B and beyond, his diverse talents shine through. While he is more known for crafting hip-hop tunes when it comes to his solo work, this week’s Billboard charts paint a different picture, showing him to be something of an unexpected success story in the alternative style.

J-Hope currently holds the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Alternative Digital Song Sales chart, carving out a space on one of the company’s rock-oriented rankings. This particular tally focuses solely on songs labeled as “alternative” in genre that have garnered the highest sales in the U.S. during the preceding tracking period. J-Hope’s single „More“ reigns supreme on the ranking, as it sold 3,551 copies, according to Luminate.

„More“ isn’t new to the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart this week—it’s making something of a comeback. The track had previously graced the ranking before disappearing, seemingly for good, months ago. In this latest chart, „More“ makes a triumphant resurgence, reclaiming the top spot and dethroning Billie Eilish’s „What Was I Made For?“ The Grammy and Oscar-winning artist had previously dominated the ranking with her Barbie single.

What makes the success of “More” on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart somewhat curious is that it stems from an album primarily focused on rap. The track served as a preview for J-Hope’s album Jack in the Box, which this week occupies the No. 2 position on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. This ranking highlights the best-selling rap releases in the United States. Three other tracks from the same album also feature on this week’s edition of the Rap Digital Song Sales chart.

While most of Jack in the Box can be definitively labeled as rap or hip-hop, one of the biggest hits from the set is now a major winner on the alternative chart.

The recent resurgence of interest in Jack in the Box can be attributed to J-Hope’s decision to release it in a physical format for the first time. Originally introduced in 2022, the project was initially available only for streaming or digital purchase. The release of the physical version prompted fans to rush to support the singer and rapper, snapping up copies to commemorate the occasion. Additionally, J-Hope treated fans to new music through an updated offering, which he aptly named the Hope Edition of the album.
