Jung Kook (Big Hit Music)

Big Hit MusicBTS’s Jung Kook continues to make history with his debut solo single „Seven“ as it claims the top spot on the Billboard Global 200 chart for a second consecutive week. That means that once again, the pop tune is the biggest and most-consumed on the planet, and he’s almost alone in managing this feat.

Last week, „Seven“ not only dominated the U.S. charts but also reached the pinnacle of the Billboard Global 200, making Jung Kook only the second South Korean solo musician to achieve this feat. While the track has now been replaced atop the Hot 100 by Jason Aldean’s „Try That in a Small Town,“ it retains its reign on the ranking of the most-consumed songs globally.

The BTS star’s achievement is remarkable, as no other South Korean solo artist has managed to spend more than one week at the top of the Billboard Global 200 chart in its years-long history. Previously, Jung Kook and Blackpink’s Rosé were tied, each having sent one track to the top of the roster for a single frame. Rosé’s single, „On the Ground,“ dominated the tally for one frame in the spring of 2021 before being dethroned by Justin Bieber, Giveon, and Daniel Caesar’s „Peaches.“

Now, Jung Kook surpasses Rosé in this regard, with „Seven“ controlling the list for two consecutive weeks.

When considering all artists from South Korea and their success on the Billboard Global 200, Jung Kook is no longer alone in earning more than one stay in the penthouse. Both BTS and Blackpink have seen multiple songs spend more than a single week atop the ranking.

Blackpink’s „Pink Venom“ ruled for two consecutive turns in September 2022. After stepping down from the summit, the K-pop girl group returned with another No. 1 hit shortly thereafter, „Shut Down,“ which held the top spot for one frame.

BTS, on the other hand, holds the record for the most songs by a South Korean musical act to have ruled the Billboard Global 200 for more than one week. Their chart-topping hits „Dynamite“ and „Butter“ achieved four and two nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1, respectively. Overall, BTS has secured an impressive total of seven leaders on the Billboard Global 200, the most among all acts, though most of those champions have only held court at the top for one turn.
