FC Barcelona are renegotiating their contract with Nike according to Jijantes.

VISIONHAUSFC Barcelona are renegotiating their contract with NikeNKE according to Jijantes, focusing on how to „improve conditions for the interests of the club“ and possibly selling stadium naming rights to the American sportswear giant.

Nike has provided Barca’s team shirts and general apparel since 1998. With a contract running until 2028, their relationship is guaranteed to span at least 30 years.

According to Jijantes, which is headed by transfer market expert Gerard Romero, president Joan Laporta and his board want to extend the partnership and have already entered talks on the matter with their Oregon-based kit sponsor.

The club also wishes to evaluate „new sources of income“ for Barca, who are currently in debt and have had to pull a series of „economic levers“ since 2022 which entail selling stakes in Barca Studios and percentages of future television rights income.

Barca want to improve the terms they have in their agreement with Nike „for the interests of the club“.

Furthermore, they have already proposed selling the naming rights of the Montjuic Stadium to Nike which the company is reportedly not opposed to.

Barcelona’s city council would have to sign off on such a development as it owns the Olympic Stadium that Barca will use until at least late 2024 while their usual Camp Nou home is being renovated.

The naming rights of the iconic ground were sold to music streaming firm Spotify in 2022. According to a MARCA report which quoted figures from Mundo Deportivo, SPORT and RAC1, the agreement between Spotify and Barca entails the club being paid €5 million ($5.3 million) a season until the Camp Nou’s construction works are completed.

Then, €20 million ($21 million) a term will be handed over for the remaining years of their deal.

When Barca put pen to paper with Nike in 2016, SPORT reported that the two parties had agreed for the Blaugrana to be paid a minimum of €105 million ($110 million) a season which could rise to a „historical maximum“ of €155 million ($163 million) depending on variables.

It is currently unclear whether Barca want to receive more money in this respect as part of a new arrangement, or perhaps take a bigger cut of profits from shirt sales and similar facets – if not both.
