Big Hit MusicFive members of the globally renowned boy band BTS have now achieved the feat of securing a spot inside the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart with their solo projects.
This week, V, one of the group’s vocalists, makes his debut on the chart with his debut solo EP. The collection, titled Layover, begins its time on the Billboard 200 at No. 2. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most-consumed albums and EPs in the United States.
Joining his fellow BTS members Suga, J-Hope, RM and Jimin, V becomes the fifth member of the group to reach the lofty region as a solo artist. In a year already marked by incredible achievements, three of these talented musicians have entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in 2023 alone. The group members’s solo endeavors have taken center stage as the band is currently on a hiatus, with several members dedicating their time to fulfilling their mandatory military service obligations, a requirement for all men in South Korea.
Layover launches in the runner-up position on this week’s Billboard 200, second only to Olivia Rodrigo’s unstoppable sophomore album, Guts, which debuts with an impressive 302,000 equivalent units. V’s EP begins its journey on the tally with precisely 100,000 equivalent units.

RM, another member of BTS, was the first to break into the Billboard 200’s top 10 as a solo artist, achieving the showing in December 2022. His project Indigo ascended to a new peak on the chart, reaching No. 3 with 83,000 equivalent units, following its release in a physical format.
Jimin continued the impressive winning streak of BTS members on the Billboard 200 by debuting his solo EP, Face, at No. 2. At the time, it marked the loftiest placement for a K-pop soloist on the chart. It is now tied for that honor, though no solo artist from the Asian nation has risen higher.
Shortly thereafter, Suga, performing under his alter ego Agust D, achieved a No. 2 debut with his latest project, D-Day. Suga had come close to breaking into the top tier of the chart previously with his mixtape D-2, which reached No. 11 in 2020.
More recently, J-Hope watched as his recent album reached new heights, joining in on this bit of history. J-Hope’s Jack in the Box was re-released as a deluxe edition titled the Hope Edition and became available for physical purchase for the first time. This move propelled the album to No. 6 on the Billboard 200, marking J-Hope’s first placement within the coveted top 10.
